Beautiful People: The boutique in 1960’s counter-culture, Fashion & Textile Museum, London
Take a trip back in time to the Swinging Sixties and visit the King’s Road in Chelsea for the hottest looks! This exhibition examines the influences on British 1960’s fashion, and the key boutiques such as Granny Takes a Trip, Biba and Quorum. There are some fabulous patterns on display, revealing the many influences of the period; embroidery from the hippy trails in Afghanistan and India, Art Nouveau swirling lines, and gender-fluid dressing.
The Quorum display was my favourite, featuring pieces by the icons of modern textile design, Alice Pollock, Celia Birtwell and Ossie Clark. These designs are more subtle than some of the louder psychadelic patterns and still very wearable today.
The exhibition is on until March 2022.
Until next time creative crew,
Joanna
