Sustainability and Ethics Statement
At Zena & Rose we have consciously thought about the environmental impact on our planet and the labour conditions of our suppliers. We only work with trusted companies so you can be reassured that when you buy a product from us, you know where it came from and how it was made.
Kits
We have tried to reduce the plastic in our kits as much as possible. At present there is only 1 plastic element which are the sponges. We tried cellulose alternatives but they didn't function as well. Other materials:
Felt mat- 100% cotton
Calico fabric - 100% cotton
Blank items to print onto - 100% cotton
Paint pots - glass and aluminium - 100% recyclable
Paint - water-based, non-toxic
Wood blocks - produced in India from shisham wood. This is a protected wood and can only be exported by licensed companies to preserve the forests.
Paper - (for our greeting cards and instruction leaflets) responsibly-sourced from FSC certified sources and is either recycled or recyclable.
Packaging
- Sustainably sourced material (FSC certified)
- Recycled or recyclable card boxes and fill
- All packing processes carried out in-house in the UK
Textile manufacturing
Supply chain
All our textile fabrics come from a cotton supply chain which is monitored by SEDEX and OKEO-TEX certification. This means the environmental impact of processes and the conditions of workers are checked to make sure they are fair and legal.
In addition:
- The digital printing process uses 95% less energy than screen printing. Both processes use water-based inks which are better for the environment than chemical printing.
- Left over ink is professionally processed, not going into landfill.
- Factory uses sustainable energy where possible (solar-powered).
- All processes carried out in-house in the UK to reduce air carbon footprint.
Delivery

We have chosen to work with Royal Mail because this Which report rates Royal Mail as the ‘eco-friendliest’ of all the main delivery companies.
