Celia Birtwell - iconic British fashion and surface pattern designer

Today we are profiling Celia Birtwell, iconic British fashion and surface pattern designer. She was studying at Salford School of Art when she met fellow designer Ossie Clark in a Manchester coffee bar. By 1965, Clark was designing clothes using Birtwell’s floral, whimsical textile prints; a creative partnership which propelled the couple into their most successful period. They dominated the fashion world, dressing celebrities, models and rockstars until the couple split in 1973.

In the 1980s Celia moved into the world of interior design and opened a shop in Westbourne Grove, London. Today her brand is still growing and has a retail product range.
