We invite you to join us on a creative journey into the world of wood block printing.
This private workshop is suitable for beginners and you don't need to have done any art before. It is very accessible for all and we are here to guide you.
Your tutor Joanna will explain the thought process behind different types of patterns and prints. She will also do a printing demonstration, explaining how different colours work together and how to best use your printing space.
You’ll then have a go at experimenting with the hand-carved wood blocks – there are over 100 botanical, animal and geometric designs to choose from. This stage is just about having fun and seeing what works! You will come up with your own combinations and colour palettes.
Your tutor will work with you individually to discuss your ideas before you move onto printing your final items.

The structure (2hrs):
15 min: introduction and demonstration by tutor.
20min: practice printing with the wood blocks and experiment with patterns, borders and placement prints.
1hr 15: final projects - bring your design ideas to life! Make gift tags, greetings cards, an A5 notebook, and an A4 art print.
10min: tidy up
After the workshop, you will receive our guidance information to help you continue with printing. It is full of great tips and advice on equipment and supplies.
What's included:
All materials and teaching time. You are also welcome to bring your own paper/ card but please ensure the surface is matt not shiny.
Tea and coffee are provided.
We provide aprons but you may want to wear old clothes as we are using paint.

ALLERGEN INFORMATION: As part of the traditional hand-made process, the wood blocks are soaked in mustard oil.
